Ballston Spa Rotarian to sign books
in Saratoga during August

Author Ann Hauprich will be signing copies of her just published book Deadlines, Headlines & Porcupines: The Laugh Lines Behind the Bylines at Border’s Books & Cafe on Tuesday, August 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. and at Crafters Gallery on Friday, August 25, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Both stores are located on Broadway in Saratoga Springs. (Scroll to bottom of this press release for complete book signing schedule.)

Published by Peckhaven Publishing, the 148-page title sports a hilarious illustration of the plucky writer, her three children, a pet chicken and a porcupine in a rustic setting on the outskirts of Saratoga Springs as depicted by award-winning syndicated Canadian cartoonist Steve Nease.

A graduate of Ballston Spa High School who went on to represent her village’s Rotary Club abroad as an international exchange student before forging a career as a journalist north of the border, Hauprich says the book spans the period from when she founded Saratoga Living in a spare bedroom in 1998 until shortly after the magazine was sold to its current owners in 2004.

Opening chapters run the gamut from “Which came first: The chicken on my shoulder or the egg on my face?” to “Cooped up author hatches plot to nab Pullet Surprise” to “So . . . this is why writers stopped using quill pens!”

As the book evolves, readers are invited to share in some of “The Laugh Lines Behind the Bylines” that accompanied Hauprich’s in-depth interviews with such celebrities as Andy Rooney, David Hyde Pierce, Marylou Whitney and Mary Ann Mobley as well as such playful souls as Dr. Joel Goodman, founder and director of The HUMOR Project and his wife, Margie Ingram, an expert in the HUMOResilience field. Others profiled include a bear-hunting granny, a sweet candy-maker, a band of singing Zucchinis, a baker who is wild about wildlife, and an incredibly focussed photographer who has a picture perfect dog named Tudd.

Indeed, “Tudd, The Wonder Dog” -- along with master Michael L. Noonan -- will join Hauprich at the August 15 book signing at Border’s so that those wishing to secure an official paw-print from the famed canine who once “co-signed” a bank loan with Noonan in The Spa City.

Now Vice-President of The Rotary Club of Ballston Spa, the author is donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each copy of her book to the organization to be used to aid literacy programs at home and abroad.
